Greetings,
My
name is Evan Chong and I am doing a drive from San Francisco,
CA to Obergammergau, Germany. I in honor of my Uncle Saul
who suffers from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) more
commonly know as Lou Gerhig's Disease.
Uncle
Saul was very inspiring to me in my youth. He first got me
interested in traveling when he told me a story about how
he and another friend bought a vintage German automobile in
Germany after being discharged from the Korean War. They drove
around Europe for four months. Since hearing this story I've
been dreaming about driving my 1971 BMW 2002 in Germany in
the year 2002.
Until
about a year ago this was just a passing thought; driving
my BMW 2002 to Germany to where it was built. I mean after
all I was working a full time job at CNET and there was no
way i was going to get a long period time to do a trip of
this magnitude. But it just so happened that I was laid off
in October and had lots of time. Due to a combination of losing
my job and wanting to chase my dream I immediately wanted
to do the drive in Uncle Saul's honor. My plan is to use this
journey as a vehicle to distribute ALS information that I've
learned to people that I meet along the way. Lou Gehrig's
Disease (ALS) is a relatively unknown disease for which there
is no cure. Together through education and awareness we can
help expose ALS to people and get additional money for research.
Most
recently there has been a rash of new Lou Gehrig's Disease
(ALS) diagnosed patients. Most of them have been Gulf war
veterans. ALS doesn't discriminate, it effects all races and
ethnicities. If you would like to get more information about
ALS go to www.alsabayarea.com. Thank you for your time.
Best
Regards,
Evan
Chong
